ADHD Pilots
Toward evidence-based decisions about medical certificates

Welcome to the ADHD Pilots Organization.

The Injustice

Adults with Attention-Deficit Disorder (ADHD) — regardless of being under the care of medical professions, regardless of effective, proven treatment to improve symptoms of this condition, regardless of their demonstrated competence as pilots, and regardless of the absence of symptoms or other evidence of being unsafe in the air — are currently categorically disqualified from receiving an airman medical certificate by the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) required to pilot aircraft for which they are otherwise qualified. I am one of them.

The FAA's antiquated rules needlessly prevent hundreds, perhaps thousands, of qualified or aspiring pilots from either becoming pilots or continuing to enjoy flying. The rules do nothing to promote public safety. Rather, not only do the current policies promote non-disclosure of information, it is my opinion and experience that these policies unfairly discriminate against competent airmen or potential airmen who pose no increased risk to either themselves or general aviation simply by taking medications.   They are an injustice.
